Nueva Esperanza, Chinandega, Nicaragua (February 26, 2005) Engineers from Task Force Chinandega clear a field in Nueva Esperanza for the new school building that will be built this spring. The school (a pavilion-style roof with chalkboards hanging from the edges) blew down a few months ago. Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps reservists of the task force are building four schools and two medical clinics as part of New Horizons 2005 – Nicaragau, a civil-military program that combines humanitarian aid with military training opportunities. Task Force Chinandega is also setting up free medical and veterinary clinics (called Medical Readiness Training Exercises, or MEDRETEs, and Veterinary Readiness Training Exercises, or VETRETEs) for thousands of people living in western Nicaragua.
