Somotillo, Chinandega, Nicaragua (February 26, 2005) Spec. *********** Alder, a Utah Army National Guard Soldier serving in Task Force Chinandega, poses with a few new friends near the worksite of the new Cristo Salvo schoolhouse in Somotillo. Alder lived in Nicaragua for two years, and is often called upon for his language and knowledge of the people and geography of Nicaragua. Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps reservists of the task force are building four schools and two medical clinics as part of New Horizons 2005 – Nicaragau, a civil-military program that combines humanitarian aid with military training opportunities. Task Force Chinandega is also setting up free medical and veterinary clinics (called Medical Readiness Training Exercises, or MEDRETEs, and Veterinary Readiness Training Exercises, or VETRETEs) for thousands of people living in western Nicaragua.
