Youth serving on the Utah National Guard Youth
Council participated in a service project for a
family whose father is deployed with I Corps
Artillery to Afghanistan.
"We cleaned for a lady who
needed some help because her husband is
deployed," said Chloe Barnes, Council vice
president. "We do a lot of good stuff to help
kids whose parents are in the military."
This project is one of the
first the Council has taken on. In this case
only Council leaders participated, but during
Youth Programs summer camps the entire group
will help with service projects as part of their
camp experience.
"I went to a youth camp
two years ago and had a blast. I learned about
the youth committee and up and joined," said
Jared Stapley, Youth Council member at large.
"This lady’s husband joined [the Guard] and is
out fighting for our freedom, so this is the
least we can do for them."
Youth Council members are
dedicated to helping Service member families and
especially the kids.
"It’s hard work, but after
serving you feel good about it because you have
helped someone that is helping our country,"
said Council treasurer Natalia Healey.
