Impact Area
The Impact Area is a large area at the heart of all the
live-fire ranges of Camp Williams.
It is designed as a safety precaution to outline the
only authorized area on base in which explosive rounds may be detonated.
As an additional safety precaution it is surrounded by a
500-meter buffer zone.
NEVER ENTER THE IMPACT AREA.
IF YOU BECOME LOST ON CAMP WILLIAMS, STOP WHERE YOU ARE
AND
CALL RANGE CONTROL: (801) 878-5421 OR "RANGE CONTROL" ON YOUR RANGE
RADIO.
All persons regardless of military or civilian
affiliation must receive authorization from Range Control (801)878-5421
before entering Camp Williams Property.
Unexploded
Ordnance (UXO)
Threat
UXO stands for Unexploded Ordnance or explosive
ammunition that for one reason or another has not detonated.
The size and lethality of UXOs existent on Camp Williams
varies greatly based on the history and type of such munitions.
Historically, 8-inch mortars, 155mm (High Explosive /
flare / illumination) as well as C4 have been used on Camp Williams.
Unexploded direct-fire munitions (AT4 / LAW, MK 19 and M203) are also
present which should be considered just as dangerous. All weapon systems
used on Base have fired both inert (training) rounds as well as live
(active or armed) rounds.
Even though the Impact Area is the only authorized area
for detonating artillery rounds and other large caliber rounds, we've
discovered UXO's in every corner of Camp Williams training ranges.
We track all UXOs on base, and work closely with
Explosive Ordnance Disposal units to remove them.
If you see any UXOs while visiting Camp Williams,
LEAVE THEM ALONE and call Range Control immediately at (801)
878-5421. |
